Health During the Holidays: How CBD (and other cannabinoids) Can Help
It is the most wonderful time of the year! The holiday season brings a time of high energy, both positive and negative. For some, the holidays are a time of joy and exuberance, for others a time of sadness and struggle. During this time of year, it is crucial to focus on your health and wellbeing, so the holidays are a breeze.
As previously discussed in July, anxiety, stress, and pain are all impacted and regulated by the human endocannabinoid system, ECS. In addition to cannabidiol (CBD), there are many other cannabinoids that happily interact with the ECS providing a multitude of different potential benefits. Cannabigerol (CBG) and Cannabinol (CBN) are very well known, well studied cannabinoids that have different potential benefits than CBD, with no psychoactive effects. We tend to think of CBG as the “Good Morning” and focus cannabinoid. When used in the morning, CBG can provide an energizing lift and drive focus to get the day started off right. It is often used as a midday pick-me-up as it can give energy without the burnout and drop of caffeine. Along with its singular benefits, CBG is known as the “mother of all cannabinoids” meaning that its potential benefits provide a strong Entourage Effect when combined with other cannabinoids.
While we recommend CBG for morning and afternoon energy, CBN is going to be on the other end of the spectrum. CBN is your nighttime best friend. With its sedating and anti-convulsant effects, CBN can potentially provide restful evenings and deep, overnight sleep. Small doses throughout the day can potentially provide neuropathic protection, while mainly CBN is used in the evening to help people get to sleep and stay asleep all night.
Similarly to CBD, CBG and CBN are both able to be taken in all sorts of forms from tinctures to gummies, caramels to water-soluble drops and beyond.
Speaking of water-soluble solutions, the holidays are often centered around alcohol-infused beverages; however, there are now alternatives! All of the cannabinoids discussed above plus tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (your psychoactive best friend) can be found in beverage form. Ditch the alcohol for a different kind of relaxing or uplifting experience this holiday season. It is important to remember whenever trying new products to go “low and slow” as you are learning the effects on your body.
Below is a basic visual of how CBD, CBG, CBN and THC interact together via the Entourage Effect and separately.
